Enrique Peña Nieto and His Bid for the Presidency
The rather beautiful Enrique Peña Nieto is possibly the most popular presidential candidate for Mexico in years. Among all those running for president, Nieto is perhaps the most popular at the moment. His opponents are worried that if the elections were held today, he would definitely win.
For all that the official campaign season has not been opened, the man's popularity is already on an upward road. One of Nieto's particular skills is rhetorical delivery, for his gestures and tones are impressively effective whenever he makes a public address. His charisma is such that people are naturally drawn to him, and not only for his looks.
There are a lot of rumors around Nieto, such as the one that claims that he got so popular because he drew up an agreement with Televisa. Detractors claim that Nieto got th TV company to agree to distribute the news of his career highlights with some handy money under the table. It is said that this is why the media giant keeps advertising the highlights of the politician's career.
It is proposed by some that the rumors were given voice only because Nieto admitted that he was seeing someone from the network's roster of stars, Angelica Rivera. Rivera is a leading Televisa soap opera actress and one of the network's biggest moneymakers. Nieto eventually married Rivera, some time after his previous wife passed away.
He and his first wife have three kids. On the second year of his governorship of the state of Mexico, his wife Pretelini died due to a seizure-induced arrhythmia and respiratory arrest. Mexico's social scene was suddenly abuzz with interest in Nieto's doings following this unfortunate incident, given that Nieto had suddenly become one of the most desirable (and available) men in the country.
Nieto's fame with the females is merely a small contributor to his growing reputation. Part of his previous gubernatorial campaign was traveling to different parts of the state, asking constituents what public works they need, and pledging to deliver these promises or commitments or what he calls “compromisos”. His work has been primarily concerned with infrastructure development.
Many of the public work projects from the politician, upon completion, became press field days as Nieto did his best to promote his accomplishments, like any good politician. It is no surprise that Nieto is perceived as someone who can deliver when it comes to promises. It is a point of interest to critics, though, that Nieto has spent extravagant sums just to get the media exposure for these finished infrastructure projects.
Nieto also got some flak for something that happened in the Guadalajara Book Fair. In the fair, the politician could not produce certain pertinent details about his alleged favorite books. He admitted having a difficult time remembering the titles of books and that he focuses more on reading the content than memorizing its authors and titles.
His mistakes unleashed humorous, sometimes harsh, remarks on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. It was made worse when one of his offspring, understandably upset about others' ridicule of her father, ended up saying something less than diplomatic about her father's opponents. Even now, in spite of all the politician's efforts to stem the critics, they are still making fun of him for his alleged lack of intellectualism.
Enrique Peña Nieto asserts that his words are often taken out of context by his detractors. Most people are still predicting his win in the polls, though. It is said that he is most likely to win due to the voters' liking for him.
